Biofeedback

What is Biofeedback?

If you have ever heard of the term biofeedback you may be curious to know what it is. Biofeedback is an alternative medical technique that allows you to learn how to control bodily functions. These functions include your heart rate, your blood pressure, how you move your body and many other things. In order to achieve this, your body is connected to electrical sensors that allow you to collect measure and receive information from your body. The sensors teach you how to make changes in your body and even how to reduce pain in your body. Biofeedback is one of the most common relaxation techniques out there.

Why Is It Done?

Biofeedback can help with a broad variety of health issues including physical and mental health issues. Some of the things that biofeedback can help treat includes chemotherapy side effects, anxiety, stress, constipation, heart problems, high blood pressure, asthma, irritable bowel syndrome, pain, incontinence, physical performance as well as Raynaud’s disease.

Why does it Appeal to so Many?

The reason that biofeedback appeals to so many people is the fact that it can be done without medications or interventions. For people who do not want to take medicine for everything this may be a great way for them to experience a way of dealing with the problem naturally instead of medically. Other people may have taken medication only to find out that it does not work and that they have been taking the medication and spending their money on something that does not work. When they turn to biofeedback they realize that it is all natural and free and works well. Another reason why biofeedback is so well loved is because it has no risks. Many people practice biofeedback every day and have never had one single problem. Unlike medication where you can have an adverse reaction the art of biofeedback does not have those risks. However due to some of the procedure types you will need to talk to your doctor before you begin any type of biofeedback.

Getting Started

If you are interested in getting biofeedback you will need to first speak with your doctor. He or she can help to get you started with the biofeedback world and point you to different devices and plans that work well. If your doctor does not specialize in this field he or she can point you to a person in your area that does. Remember to watch your health closely and stay in touch with your doctor to see how your biofeedback sessions are working.
